This year marks Global Skate Athlete Geoff Rowley’s 25-year anniversary with the brand. Geoff is recognized as one of the most influential street skaters of all time, and his vision has been instrumental in reshaping the trajectory of skate shoe design over the years.
To celebrate this milestone and pay tribute to his iconic legacy, we’ve launched the Rowley 25th Anniversary collection, leading with the Skate Rowley silhouette that dates to the early 2000s when the shoe was available exclusively at core skate shops. As an update to that original grassroots approach, this year we are releasing exclusive collaboration Rowley signature models for key Vans Checkerboard Union (VCU) accounts including Labor and Pawnshop. VCU is a brand initiative that highlights the vital role skate shops play in supporting and shaping the skateboard community. The union is comprised of a collective of skate shops that embody Vans' core values and “Off The Wall” spirit, and is dedicated to uplifting and advancing the community and culture of skateboarding.
This November, we released two styles in the Americas, the Skate Rowley and Rowley XLT, available at Vans retail locations and Vans.com, as well as a campaign that is being adopted globally over the next month and was recently featured in Thrasher Magazine. In addition, Pawnshop will host a shoe launch event Monday, 11/18, to bring together the core skate community from 7-12 PM at their new Pomona location. The event will feature two video premieres, a Steve Van Doren BBQ, a photo show featuring skate photographer Anthony Acosta and live music.
Vans has supported Geoff’s demands for a perfect skate shoe since he joined the brand, and that has held true through today. The Skate Rowley nods to his signature shoe while pushing skate culture forward. Built on the Rowley Pro foundation and redesigned for today’s skaters, the vulcanized classic featured Duracap™ reinforced toe caps for added durability, SickStick™ rubber for maximum grip and traction, and PopCush™ footbeds for impact protection and reduced leg fatigue for extended skating. The collection is rounded out with a 25th anniversary T-shirt featuring an iconic shot of Rowley’s lipslide down a massive handrail - a standout moment in his career.
As we continue to transform our brand for the future, it’s important to recognize our deep roots in Skateboarding, as well as the critical role of athletes like Geoff who have paved the way for future generations and continue to push skateboarding culture forward.
