Vans is proud to announce its second collaboration with multidisciplinary designer and creative visionary, Nicole McLaughlin.
Conceptualized from her boundless curiosity and explorative nature, the Vans x Nicole McLaughlin collection steeps with adventure. Renowned for her ability to upcycle single-use materials into innovative, multi-functional designs, Nicole brings her signature playfulness to the limited collection. Mixing adventurous practicality with her distinct creative perspective, the collaboration offers a unique fusion of style and function.
“It’s key to have elements of functionality, mixed with a sense of conceptual art and style,” says Nicole McLaughlin. “Creating pieces that can be multi-purpose, but also fun has always been my goal. I was inspired by vintage hiking packs from the ‘70s and the aesthetic of outdoor gear from that era for the collection.”
The collaboration features the capable Vans x Nicole McLaughlin Slip-On RS with a rucksack pocket in the toe and adjustable nylon webbing. The Slip-On RS is also built with durability and functionality in mind, with an upper built from a 40% recycled canvas and treated with PFC-free DWR for waterproofing. And on the outsole, the lugged tread pattern provides multi-surface traction. Blending utility and style, the coordinating Vans x Nicole McLaughlin Rucksack doubles as a climbing chalk bag made from a durable 40% recycled canvas while the 80% organic cotton Vans x Nicole McLaughlin Rucksock features a cargo pocket for extra merit.
Dripping with wit, the Vans x Nicole McLaughlin campaign showcases the collection through a mini series of tiny replicas of real-life objects. Going off-grid, the Vans x Nicole McLaughlin Slip-On RS is unpacked with tiny items from the shoe’s pockets to set up camp. The collection is also presented in a downsized version of Nicole’s atelier, redefining the unexpected ways she tailors to her creative process and DIY approach. The campaign was shot and styled by Nicole McLaughlin.
The Vans x Nicole McLaughlin Slip-On RS will be available in two colorways, Tan and Grey while the Vans x Nicole McLaughlin Rucksack and Vans x Nicole McLaughlin Rucksock will be available in Oatmeal.
